THE LAURA SULTAN® Digital transparency — mentoring, training and policy

Work with me

Three ways in, depending on whether the problem is yours alone, your members’, or a room you need filled.

Mentoring and e-commerce strategy

One-to-one work with founders facing a specific platform problem, or building the channel mix that stops one platform from being able to do this to them.

Diagnose what happened

Suppressed listings, account standing, catalogue behaviour, PPC and CRO. We work out what the platform actually did, and what evidence you have.

Reduce what it can cost you

A dependency audit of where revenue genuinely comes from, then the owned channels — email, direct storefront, wholesale, export — that make one platform less able to decide your year.

Document properly

Escalation practices that hold up under pressure, so the next time something moves you have a record instead of a recollection.

Hand it to your team

Roadmaps, KPI scorecards and SOPs written so someone other than you can run them.

A fifteen-minute call, no charge

Before anyone spends anything. Tell me what’s going on and I’ll tell you whether I can help, what it would take, and whether you’d be better off doing it yourself. If it isn’t a fit, I’ll say so.

How it works

Discovery call

Fifteen minutes, no charge. We work out whether this is the right fit — and I’ll say so if it isn’t.

Audit

I look at your channels, your numbers and whatever documentation exists, and come back with what I actually see.

Working sessions

We use your hours on the things that move first. You leave each session with something to do, not something to think about.

Ways to work together

All prices in CAD, plus HST.

90 minutes on one specific problem. No commitment beyond the session, and it counts toward a package if you decide to carry on.

When this isn’t the right fit

If you need someone to run your ads, manage your listings day to day, or take over an account, that’s an agency, not me. I work with founders who want to understand their own systems well enough to make the calls themselves.

Workshops for organisations

Half-day or two-part sessions for incubators, BIAs, associations, chambers and accelerators. Built around your members’ actual channels rather than a generic curriculum, with the second session shaped by the questions raised in the first.

  • Scoped to your membership — marketplace sellers, makers, exporters, or mixed
  • In person in the GTA, or online for distributed membership — travel further afield on request
  • Includes a take-away documentation and escalation framework

Pricing depends on format, group size and how much is built new versus adapted. Tell me what you have in mind and I’ll quote it.

Open sessions at the Centre for Social Innovation

A two-part public series for independent sellers, makers and small business owners. The sessions connect, but each stands on its own.

Session one

Demystifying: digital transparency in e-commerce

October — date and time to be announced · CSI, 192 Spadina Ave

How marketplace decisions actually get made, using real cases from a Toronto business that has spent years on both sides of that process. What large platforms disclose versus what they don’t, and what sellers can reasonably ask for.

  • Ranking, visibility, catalogue control and account standing, in plain terms
  • A business Amazon filmed as a success story in 2022, and what one algorithm change did in 2023
  • What you can request, document and escalate — and where the real limits are

Session two

Resilience for small business in a digital landscape

Wednesday 2 December — time to be announced · CSI, 192 Spadina Ave

Reducing dependency on any single platform, building channels you own, and finding growth outside the algorithm. Shaped in part by the questions raised in October.

  • Dependency audit: where revenue comes from, and what happens if one channel disappears
  • Owned channels — email, direct storefront, community — at realistic small scale
  • Creative export into the U.S. and U.K. as a small Canadian business
  • Markets, wholesale and offline revenue as deliberate strategy, not fallback
  • Where Canadian marketplace policy is going, and how small sellers can be heard

Speaking

Keynotes and conference sessions.

  • Locked Out by Design — what happens when a platform decides against you, and why disclosure is the fix
  • Scaling with Intention — from market stall to international brand, and the systems that made it hold
  • Resilience in the Messy Middle — building a business that survives what you can’t control
